In the wake of Deep South's Katrina, the Scientology religion opened its doors to Louisiana’s largest city; with the grand opening of the Church of Scientology Mission of New Orleans. Comprised of dedicated and caring mission staff, they are servicing their community members and parishioners through the church's many community outreach activities and delivery of Dianetics and Scientology services in the mission.
Yet, establishing this church was no small task because the building itself was literally five feet under water after Katrina hit. So Scientologists and Mission Directors, Tom and Cathy Steiner, their second in-charge, Kelly Keeney, and the Mission Executive Director Stephanie Fielding, got to work calling all-hands reconstruction of the mission to get it back in shape for its grand opening. And before the paint could dry, that team of Scientologists created, in the middle of a muddy-gray and lifeless neighborhood, the first beacon of hope in its full array of colors. It was a momentous occasion for the community, for those doors were opened by the Mayor of Gretna, Mr. Ronnie Harris, the Economic Development Director for New Orleans, Mr. Don Hutchinson and the Deputy Sheriff for Jefferson Paris, Mr. Marc Dupris. And when the ribbon hit the floor, a packed crowd entered their new Scientology home following the beat of a live Jazz band playing, “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Scientologists and city officials are proud to welcome the new Scientology mission and its staff to their new home at: 3424 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119 USA.
